Detective Conan Episodes 1128–1129: Conan and Megure’s Two Hostages

Detective Conan Episodes 1128–1129: Conan and Megure’s Two Hostages

Spoilers: Both kidnappings, the mastermind’s identity and the children’s rescue are covered below.

Naho Mimura engineers both kidnappings to eliminate her stepson, Kazuo. Conan and Megure’s Two Hostages (Part 1) and Conan and Megure’s Two Hostages (Part 2) are international episodes 1186–1187 (Japanese episodes 1128–1129), an anime-original case. The couple holding Kazuo are being forced to act because their own son, Tetsuya, is already a hostage.

Conan takes Kazuo’s place to get him away from immediate danger. Solving the case then requires two rescues and a change in perspective: the apparent kidnappers are also parents obeying threats against their child.

A capsule toy carries a request for help

While out buying a mystery novel, Conan notices an uneasy boy with a young couple. The boy drops a capsule toy containing a note asking for help. Conan follows them, returns the apparent lost property and finds a way to speak to the boy in a restroom.

The boy is Kazuo Mimura. Escaping together is difficult, so Conan changes clothes with him and lets him get away while taking his place. He gives Kazuo a message to carry and uses his voice-changing ability as part of the deception.

Conan’s decision moves the investigation inside the kidnappers’ car. It is a considerable personal risk, but it also lets him observe their behavior directly while the real Kazuo is removed from their immediate control.

The demand sounds rehearsed, but the couple do not

Hayato and Chiaki Wakai contact Kazuo’s father and demand 300 million yen in used banknotes, speaking through a voice changer. Yet their behavior does not match practiced criminals. They seem to rely on instructions found online and handle the child awkwardly rather than confidently.

Conan notices their rings and habits and recognizes them as a married couple. A toy car in their vehicle becomes a further clue: they have a child of their own. Their anxiety starts to look less like greed than fear of failing someone else’s demands.

At the Mimura home, Megure and the police question the family, identify the vehicle and the Wakai couple, and put an emergency response in motion. The approaching roadblocks make Conan’s position more dangerous even as they bring conventional police pressure closer to the car.

Tetsuya is the leverage behind Kazuo’s kidnapping

Tetsuya is the leverage behind Kazuo’s kidnapping

The couple’s son, Tetsuya Wakai, has been abducted separately. His captor orders them to seize Kazuo and handle the ransom demand. Conan recognizes that stopping the couple alone would leave their son in danger, so he works with them while they pretend to keep following the instructions.

He also communicates with Megure while posing as a kidnapper. The police side begins to suspect that money is not the central objective. Instructions direct the ransom vehicle off the expressway at the Nishizawabukuro exit and then to wait at Kozuka Station’s north entrance, keeping the officers occupied with a controlled route.

The elaborate directions increasingly look like a way to move and delay the police. Conan meanwhile has the couple acquire changes of clothing, and a brief beef-bowl meal supplies a pause amid the pressure. These ordinary stops sit beside the urgent effort to locate Tetsuya.

The tower photograph and construction noise narrow the search

The tower photograph and construction noise narrow the search

A photograph sent to show that Tetsuya is alive gives Conan more than reassurance. Toto Tower, the view outside the window and the direction of the shadows help narrow where it could have been taken. Construction sounds heard over the telephone supply another environmental clue.

Together, the image and sound point toward a building near the tower. Each supplies a different constraint: the view establishes the surroundings, the height and shadows help with the position, and the noise ties the call to activity near the location.

Reaching a likely building is not enough. The photograph suggests a room around the third or fourth floor, and mail accumulating in an unused unit’s mailbox helps narrow the remaining choices. The Wakai couple force entry and finally find Tetsuya alive.

Chiaki recognizes perfume lingering in the room as associated with a university friend, Naho Kuroki. The threat calls had come directly to Chiaki’s phone, already pointing toward someone who knew how to contact her. The smell gives that possibility a specific person.

Checks of the name connect Naho Kuroki to Naho Mimura—the woman in Kazuo’s household. She can appear to be a concerned family member while directing the couple from behind the scenes. Following only the people in the kidnapping car would never have fully exposed that position.

The perfume is therefore not treated as a complete identity proof by itself. It triggers Chiaki’s recognition, while the existing relationship and the name connection bring the investigation to the same woman.

The ransom is cover for an attack on Kazuo

Naho is facing the prospect of divorce. Although she would no longer belong to the Mimura household in the same way, her biological son would remain his father’s child. She views Kazuo, her stepson, as an obstacle to the future she wants to secure for her own son.

Her objective is therefore not simply collecting the ransom. She uses her position as a parent in the household to pick Kazuo up, then takes him toward the sea and attempts to kill him. The woman who should be a safe person for him is the one creating the danger.

Conan and Megure converge on the real objective in time to stop her. Chiba’s arrival reinforces the sense that the police effort has finally caught up with the hidden plan. Kazuo is rescued, and Naho is taken into custody.

Two children are saved, and the couple’s coercion matters

Two children are saved, and the couple’s coercion matters

The Wakai couple did carry out a kidnapping, but the story’s outcome takes account of the threats against their son: prosecution is suspended in light of those circumstances.

The ending shows them watching Tetsuya play soccer. After a case in which children have been used to control adults and settle family ambitions, that ordinary scene of parents watching their child has particular warmth.

The partnership between Conan’s observations inside the car and Megure’s investigation outside it is what makes the two rescues possible. Neither the visible ransom demand nor the first pair of suspects can explain the whole case. The turning point is recognizing whose safety is being used to force each person to move.
