Detective Conan Episode 1117: Karate Teacher Ran Mouri

Spoilers: The murderer, false injury and altered contract are revealed below.

Karate Teacher Ran Mouri, international episode 1175 (Japanese episode 1117), is an anime-original case. Namisugi kills the building owner and plans to frame karate instructor Goda. The mystery becomes tangled because Goda finds the body and changes the scene for a separate reason: to alter the dojo’s lease.

Ran Mouri agrees to teach children at a dojo because its instructor, Goda, says his arm is injured. Conan accompanies her to the old building, with the dojo on the first floor and the management office above it.

Ran’s precise demonstrations and patient corrections quickly win over the class. The children also tease her about romance, leaving Conan embarrassed. This ordinary teaching scene establishes something worth returning to after the investigation, rather than existing only to place her near a crime.

During the lesson, Conan sees Goda leave and quarrel with the owner, Momohara, about renewal of the dojo’s lease. Later, a power failure interrupts the class, followed by a shout from upstairs. Momohara is found dead from a blow to the back of the head.

Namisugi, a former classmate helping with the building’s management, appears to be the discoverer. An open safe suggests robbery, while a golf driver found at the scene carries Goda’s fingerprints. The lease dispute gives the police an obvious motive to consider.

The body’s position near the desk is inconsistent with the space needed to swing the driver. Marks on the floor also suggest movement of a side desk. Investigators consider a blow nearer the entrance followed by movement of the body.

Even Goda’s apparently injured arm does not settle the issue. A demonstration shows how a sling could help move a body with one usable arm. Under pressure, Goda admits returning to reset the breaker and finding Momohara already dead.

Instead of reporting it, he moved the body to the desk and used the dead man’s face to unlock his computer. He altered the lease renewal and put the document in the safe. His account explains real tampering while leaving the actual murder unresolved.

This is the crucial separation in the case. Goda’s denial of murder is compatible with his fingerprints and his movement of the body because he has committed a different set of acts at the same scene. His own concealment has distorted evidence the killer expected the police to find.

Conan notices prepared coffee with no cup to drink it from. Namisugi has used a timer on the coffee maker to create an electrical overload in a building whose breaker trips easily.

He knows that Goda normally uses the golf club to reach the breaker. After killing Momohara with that club, he expects the outage to bring Goda upstairs, make him handle the weapon and leave him as both discoverer and principal suspect.

Goda’s unanticipated contract scheme interrupts that plan. No immediate police call comes, and the body is no longer where Namisugi left it. When he returns, he has to adapt to a scene someone else has already changed.

He opens the safe to make the killing look like a robbery and takes on the role of discoverer himself. What appears to be one carefully arranged scene is therefore the result of a planned frame-up, Goda’s opportunism and the murderer’s improvised response.

The coffee without a cup exposes the purpose of the timed appliance. The safe key bears Namisugi’s fingerprints, consistent with the management work he usually performs for the careless owner and with his later handling of the safe.

His unusually conspicuous socks and odd walking conceal another trace. Momohara grabbed his leg during the attack, leaving marks that connect Namisugi with the struggle. The clothing detail has a physical explanation rather than merely marking him as eccentric.

Together, these observations dismantle his position as a man who was elsewhere and only found the body. Conan delivers the solution using Professor Agasa’s voice, and Namisugi confesses.

His resentment comes from years of being bullied and made to do Momohara’s work despite their outward description as classmates and partners. That history explains the anger behind the plan while making the supposedly friendly relationship look very different in retrospect.

Goda also has to answer for moving the body and changing the contract. His arm injury turns out to be feigned, part of an effort to pressure Momohara with an assault allegation. Protecting the dojo does not make those actions disappear once the murderer is named.

The two men leave with the police, and the teaching job has acquired a bitter context. Ran nevertheless remains focused on the children who came to learn. Her final karate demonstration and board-breaking give them a reason to cheer again.

That ending makes her role in the title meaningful. The adults have treated the room, the contract and other people as tools for private purposes. Ran’s responsibility to the class stays straightforward. Her strength is expressed as something she can teach and share, which provides the story’s clearest relief.
