Kaito Kid is Kaito Kuroba, but the people who know the teenager behind the costume form a much smaller circle than his audience. Konosuke Jii, Chikage Kuroba, and Akako Koizumi are central to that circle. Saguru Hakuba, Ruby Jones, and Jack Connery also need discussion, with attention to how they learn or approach the secret.
A list can obscure an important difference: assisting Kaito, believing a deduction about him, and coming close to exposing him are different kinds of access. They should not automatically be counted as identical, publicly demonstrated confirmations.
Most of these relationships belong to Magic Kaito. Conan Edogawa’s repeated encounters with the thief do not by themselves establish that Conan knows the name Kaito Kuroba or the school life behind it.
The first Kid, Toichi Kuroba, requires a separate discussion. Knowing who wore the original costume does not necessarily mean knowing who wears it now; the movie’s revelations also need their own boundary.
The current Kid is Kaito Kuroba
Kaito is a second-year high-school student and the second person to become Kaito Kid, also written Kaitou Kid. His resemblance to Shinichi Kudo is striking, but they are separate people. Confusing the faces would make the identity question harder from the outset.
His father, Toichi, was the original Kid. Kaito’s discovery of his father’s secret leads him to take up the role and pursue the circumstances surrounding Toichi’s apparent death.
The white costume therefore carries a family history. When someone learns that Kaito is Kid, they uncover more than a disguise: they reach a part of his life that connects directly to his father.
Why Magic Kaito contains most of the identity circle
Detective Conan usually presents Kid from outside: an announcement, a disguise, an escape, and a contest with Conan. Kaito’s ordinary life is not the center of those encounters.
Magic Kaito starts on the other side of the secret. Kaito is its protagonist, with classmates, family, and a daily life at Ekoda High School. The people around him can encounter both the student and the thief.
That difference explains why an identity list drawn from both series can look unexpectedly long. It does not mean Conan’s regular cast has collectively unmasked him.
I enjoy the contrast between the teenager’s banter and the seriousness of his search for his father. Knowing both sides makes the secret more personal than a recurring trick at the end of a heist.
Who belongs on the list, and what does knowing mean?
The key names to distinguish are Konosuke Jii, Chikage Kuroba, Akako Koizumi, Saguru Hakuba, Ruby Jones, and Jack Connery. Their relationships to Kaito’s identity are not interchangeable, and the evidence does not support treating them as one uniform category.
Jii and Chikage belong to his supporting family circle. Akako reaches the secret through magic. Hakuba pursues it as a detective. Ruby and Jack become relevant through individual encounters rather than everyday family access.
Hakuba’s confidence about Kaito and an arrest that conclusively exposes Kid are separate matters. Likewise, a character approaching the secret does not automatically establish when or how completely that character has confirmed it.
Jack is deceased. Even if his knowledge is included in a historical list, he should not be counted as someone currently sharing the secret with Kaito.
Toichi and Kaitou Corbeau belong in the movie discussion below. Adding them to an uncomplicated manga list would mix different evidence and different questions about the two generations of Kid.
How each person reaches Kaito’s secret
The interest lies in the relationship behind each name. Some people protect Kaito, some challenge him, and others place his identity in danger during a case.
The secret is consequently more than a checklist of people. It creates different pressures depending on whether the person across from him is an ally, a detective, or someone with a reason to expose him.
Jii and Chikage: the family support circle
Konosuke Jii knew the original Kid and assists Kaito after he takes up the costume. His access is practical and continuing: he supports the teenager who is actually carrying out the heists.
Jii links the two generations. He knows the father Kaito is trying to understand as well as the risks the son is taking now.
That continuity gives their relationship warmth. Kid may look solitary in front of an audience, but Kaito is not facing every part of his father’s legacy alone.
Chikage Kuroba is Kaito’s mother and formerly operated as Phantom Lady. She understands the dangerous world behind the theatrical presentation as well as the family involved in it.
Her position combines maternal concern with experience of that world. It is more complicated than simply discovering that a classmate has an unusual nighttime hobby.
Akako: a secret reached through magic
Akako Koizumi knows Kaito’s identity through magic. She is his classmate at Ekoda High School and a genuine witch within Magic Kaito’s setting.
Her method differs from Hakuba’s investigative approach. She reaches the secret through the fantasy elements of her own series, rather than by assembling an ordinary detective’s chain of evidence.
That difference should stay within its setting. Akako’s abilities do not establish that Detective Conan’s detectives have a comparable way to discover Kid’s identity.
Her interest in Kaito and occasional help also complicate the threat. Someone who knows the secret is not necessarily trying to hand him over to the police.
Hakuba: confidence is different from catching Kid
Saguru Hakuba is a high-school detective close enough to encounter Kaito in everyday life. His observations and deductions put pressure on the separation between student and thief.
The important distinction is between recognizing Kaito as Kid and proving the case by catching him in action. Hakuba’s pursuit continues because an identity suspicion or conviction alone does not produce that capture.
His pride as a detective gives the relationship its tension. He wants to defeat Kid on the scene of a heist, rather than end their rivalry with a simple accusation at school.
Their encounters also extend into Kid VS Hakuba: The Azure Throne (Part 1) and Kid VS Hakuba: The Azure Throne (Part 2), Episodes 1252-1253 (Japanese episodes 1193-1194). These are display titles for identifying the episodes, not a claim about official English release titles.
Hakuba is unsettling precisely because he belongs near Kaito’s ordinary life. Akako brings a different set of rules; Hakuba makes observation and deduction difficult to escape even outside the costume.
Ruby and Jack: danger outside the family circle
Ruby Jones, the thief known as Chat Noir, reaches toward Kaito’s secret through her encounters with Kid. Unlike Jii or Chikage, she is not part of the family support network.
The exact extent of Ruby’s confirmed knowledge remains unclear. Approaching or recognizing the secret in an encounter should be distinguished from the continuing access of someone who helps Kaito carry out a heist.
Jack Connery is an Interpol investigator who also operates as Nightmare. His connection likewise arises through a case, and he is deceased rather than a present-day confidant.
Ruby and Jack show that outsiders can get dangerously close to Kaito’s secret, but their exact recognition and its timing need to stay distinct from the family circle. This article does not turn those different levels of access into a definitive headcount.
Toichi and Corbeau: the movie adds another layer
The 2024 film The Million-dollar Pentagram reveals Toichi’s survival. That movie revelation does not establish his identity as Kaitou Corbeau or settle his status in the manga. Toichi remains a possible explanation for Corbeau.
If Toichi is Corbeau, the thief’s encounters with Kaito would support a reading that he knows his son’s role. That depends on the identity theory; survival alone does not establish such knowledge or when it was acquired.
The possibility is exciting because it could bring the first Kid close to his successor. It remains distinct from a confirmed disclosure of Kaito’s secret to his father.
Do Conan, Aoko, and Inspector Nakamori know?
In the stories discussed here, Conan is not shown knowing that Kaito Kid is Kaito Kuroba. He can read the thief’s habits, detect a disguise, and cooperate with him without identifying the teenager behind the role.
That distinction explains why familiarity is misleading. Being able to predict Kid at a crime scene is different from knowing his civilian name and daily life.
Aoko Nakamori knows Kaito as her childhood friend, but she is not shown sharing the secret of his Kid identity in the material covered here.
Her closeness makes that separation poignant. She knows the ordinary boy while remaining outside the part of his life that places him in conflict with her father’s police work.
Inspector Nakamori pursues Kid, but the stories covered here do not establish that he knows his target is his daughter’s childhood friend. Pursuing the thief and identifying Kaito are different achievements.
Near-exposure scenes can create the feeling that the secret must already be out. The relevant question is whether the character actually learns and retains the identity, rather than whether a disguise briefly becomes vulnerable.
This uneven distribution of knowledge is part of the appeal. Readers can see the student and the thief together while the people closest to him see only one side.
Knowing the first Kid is a separate question
Kaito learns that Toichi was the original Kid and takes up the role while investigating his apparent death. That knowledge is foundational to Kaito’s own story.
Jii and Chikage connect directly to Toichi’s past as well as Kaito’s present. Their relationship spans both people who wore the costume.
Yusaku Kudo and members of the mysterious group pursuing Toichi also matter when discussing the first Kid. Their knowledge about the father should not simply be transferred to knowledge about the son.
This separation keeps two mysteries readable: who knew Toichi’s role, and who now recognizes Kaito beneath the costume. A shared name does not make the answers identical.
The inheritance gives Kaito’s pursuit of large jewels and Pandora its emotional weight. The performance is dazzling, but the reason he keeps performing it reaches back to his family.
The identity circle is limited, and its boundaries matter
Kaito’s secret has several points of contact: support from Jii and Chikage, Akako’s magic, Hakuba’s deductions, and the risks posed by Ruby and Jack. They offer different kinds of knowledge rather than identical relationships.
Conan, Aoko, and Inspector Nakamori should not be added simply because they know Kid or Kaito well. Toichi’s movie-related awareness also needs its separate qualification.
The danger of exposure helps explain Kaito’s caution, though it does not mean every discovery would automatically cause his death. Keeping his ordinary life separate from Kid protects people and choices tied to that life.
What stays with me is the contrast: a thief who commands everyone’s attention still has a secret that only a limited, unevenly placed circle can reach. The spectacle feels lighter because the personal stakes underneath it are so serious.
