Who Are the Black Organization’s Snipers? Chianti, Korn, Calvados, and Rye | Case Closed

Who Are the Black Organization's Snipers? Chianti, Korn, Calvados, and Rye

Spoilers for the Black Organization’s members, undercover agents, the full-moon confrontation, and the FBI operation in Volume 100.

Chianti and Korn are the Black Organization’s established active sniper pair. Calvados is a deceased Organization sniper; Rye was the undercover identity of FBI marksman Shuichi Akai. Scotch is often discussed alongside them, but his specific assignment as an Organization sniper is not confirmed by the evidence considered here.

Keeping those categories separate answers two different questions: who can shoot at long range, and who currently provides that capability to the Organization? They do not produce the same list.

Chianti and Korn: the active sniper pair

Chianti and Korn: the active sniper pair

Both enter the story in Volumes 48-49’s Black Impact! The Moment the Black Organization Reaches Out, international Episodes 459-463 (Japanese episode 425). Their training and involvement in an assassination plan establish specialized roles beyond the handguns carried by other members.

They operate within plans directed by figures such as Gin and Rum. They often divide positions or targets, allowing the Organization to threaten people from more than one angle. Their shared function does not establish that one formally commands the other.

Chianti: impatience behind the scope

Chianti is conspicuous for the butterfly tattoo around her left eye, aggressive speech, and eagerness to fire. She repeatedly seeks permission to shoot when a target comes into view. The contrast between a job requiring patience and her visible appetite for violence makes her scenes tense.

Her training in Black Impact demonstrates a successful shot at 600 yards. That is evidence of skill under the conditions shown. It is not a universal maximum range. Nor does her impatience mean that the Organization regards her as an amateur; she is entrusted with important assassination work.

Her anger toward Vermouth over Calvados’s death adds another dimension. Chianti is willing to kill strangers, yet the loss of a colleague remains personal to her. Operational cooperation does not erase resentment inside the Organization.

Korn: quiet speech is not reluctance to kill

Korn speaks in short, broken phrases and usually keeps his emotions contained. He nevertheless makes his desire to shoot quite plain. When targets are divided in Black Impact, he expresses a preference for a head shot rather than passively accepting every decision.

His stillness contrasts with Chianti’s outbursts, but their willingness to kill is shared. One announces the threat loudly; the other makes it feel routine. Their partnership gains tension from those different temperaments without needing an invented hierarchy or romance.

Korn also remembers Andre Camel’s face from a photograph Rum sent him two years earlier. That memory becomes important during the FBI pursuit in The Black Organization’s Scheme. His contribution is therefore not limited to pulling a trigger: an observation made long before can become dangerous information later.

Calvados and Rye: former members for very different reasons

Rye and Scotch: undercover agents who infiltrate for law enforcement

Calling everyone a former Organization sniper can conceal a major distinction. Calvados died while serving the Organization. Akai was infiltrating it for the FBI and later returned to opposing it openly.

Calvados: Vermouth’s support in the full-moon confrontation

Calvados provides distant armed support for Vermouth’s attempt to eliminate Sherry in Volume 42. The anime adaptation is Head-to-Head Match with the Black Organization: A Dual Mystery on a Full Moon Night, international Episodes 371-375 (Japanese episode 345).

He appears to have personal feelings for Vermouth, which she can exploit. Akai overpowers him and disables his legs. The weapons recovered include a rifle, a shotgun, and several handguns, but possessing different firearms does not establish equal mastery of all of them.

After being disarmed, Calvados takes his own life with a concealed handgun. His role is brief, but the consequences remain in Chianti and Korn’s hostility toward Vermouth. His death is part of the Organization’s internal history, not merely the end of an action scene.

Rye: an FBI agent inside the Organization

Shuichi Akai infiltrates under the name Dai Moroboshi and receives the codename Rye. His relationship with Akemi Miyano helps him gain access, and his abilities earn him a place within the Organization.

Akai was an FBI infiltrator, not a loyal member who later changed sides. Once his infiltration is exposed, the skills the Organization had allowed inside become a threat from outside. His former position also gives his confrontations with Gin an added weight: this is an adversary whose ability they have reason to take seriously.

He belongs in a comparison of snipers connected to the Organization, but not in a count of its current loyal personnel. That distinction is essential to understanding why his arrival can reverse an operation’s balance.

Should Scotch be counted as a confirmed sniper?

Should Scotch be counted as a confirmed sniper?

Scotch is Hiromitsu Morofushi, an undercover Public Security Bureau officer. His experience with firearms does not, by itself, establish that the Organization assigned him a dedicated sniper role.

One argument comes from the instrument case seen in The Unfriendly Girls Band. Its behavior, including remaining upright, has been read as a hint that it contains something heavy, possibly a rifle. The case’s contents are not confirmed by that observation.

The distinction is between a possible weapon, the ability to use it, and a formally established role. A clue can support an interesting theory without proving all three. For a carefully bounded roster, Scotch should therefore remain a separate, unconfirmed category.

Is Akai the strongest sniper?

Is Akai the strongest sniper?

There is no official ranking that places all these characters in a controlled contest. Akai is nevertheless a strong candidate on the basis of the feats shown: distance, accuracy against small targets, judgment, and the effect of his shots on an operation.

In Black Impact, the Organization initially occupies the position of hunter. Akai’s distant intervention forces its members to react to an attacker they cannot immediately neutralize. In the Volume 100 confrontation, his shooting helps create a route to survival for the FBI’s Camel.

That is why the comparison is more interesting than a list of range figures. Akai changes what the opposing side can safely do. Calling him the leading candidate is an assessment of depicted feats, not an official power ranking.

What do the 600-, 700-, and 1,300-yard figures mean?

Chianti and Korn’s 600-yard training feat in Black Impact is contrasted with difficulty maintaining the necessary accuracy at 700 yards. Akai demonstrates precision against a small target at roughly the latter distance. His intervention in The Black Organization’s Scheme involves a shot estimated at approximately 1,300 yards.

These figures come from different situations. Target size, wind, weather, preparation, firing position, and equipment can all matter. A successful shot at one distance is not the same measurement as an absolute maximum range.

It is therefore misleading to say that Chianti and Korn can never shoot beyond 600 yards, or that Akai is exactly twice as capable. His difficult combat feats support the qualitative comparison; the numbers do not create a precise scale of human ability.

The three main cases to watch

The three main cases to watch

Start with Black Impact for the active pair, the full-moon confrontation for Calvados, and The Black Organization’s Scheme for the FBI battle. Each develops relationships and information as well as marksmanship.

Black Impact: an assassination plan changes direction

In Volumes 48-49, the Organization uses Kir, whose public identity is Rena Mizunashi, in its plan to assassinate Yasuteru Domon. Chianti and Korn are assigned sniper roles, while Gin coordinates the operation. Their training, personalities, and willingness to fire are introduced together.

Akai’s intervention then turns the pressure back toward the Organization. The same story gives a useful comparison between its active pair and the former infiltrator who now threatens them from a distance. The international numbering is Episodes 459-463 (Japanese episode 425).

The full-moon confrontation: a death that leaves resentment

Volume 42 places Calvados in support of Vermouth as she moves against Sherry. Akai’s arrival ends that support, and Calvados dies. Later exchanges involving Chianti and Korn give that death consequences beyond the immediate confrontation.

Watching international Episodes 371-375 (Japanese episode 345) with those later reactions in mind shows why Vermouth’s freedom to use other members comes at a cost. They still have to work together, but they do not all forgive her.

The Black Organization’s Scheme: memory and position matter

Volume 100’s operation against FBI agents is adapted in international Episodes 1135-1137 (Japanese episodes 1077-1079). Chianti and Korn join the pursuit of Camel, while Korn’s memory helps the Organization connect him to an earlier incident.

Akai counters with long-range support. Rum’s instructions, Gin’s decisions, the pursuit team’s information, and Akai’s timing interact. The suspense comes from each side trying to understand the other’s position and intentions, not simply from who can fire farther.

Films and the Chianti special one-shot

Chianti and Korn also participate in the Organization’s operations in The Raven Chaser, The Darkest Nightmare, and Black Iron Submarine. These films preserve their function as active armed operatives while putting them into separate movie plots.

In the movie-only story of The Darkest Nightmare, Korn’s encounter with Stout hints at a more personal history behind his normally spare speech. That characterization is worth noticing, but it should not be transferred into the manga as an automatically established event.

A special Chianti one-shot drawn by Boichi from a concept by Gosho Aoyama focuses on her routine before an assignment. It offers another perspective on a character usually seen during operations. It does not add a newly confirmed sniper to the roster or require the reader to force its events into an exact place in the main manga timeline.

The clearest roster remains Chianti and Korn as the active pair, Calvados as deceased, and Rye as a former infiltrator now serving the FBI. Scotch’s possible sniper role belongs alongside that roster as a theory with a stated limit.
