Looking for everything about Detective Conan (Case Closed) File 1138?
Need Sunday Conan chapter 1138 spoilers and in-depth analysis?
A brand-new Nagano arc began in File 1137, and it doubles as the prelude to the 2025 movie “One-Eyed Afterimage.”
Last time, Conan’s ski trip led him to the video-creator team known as the Compass Detective Club, whose on-location shoot ended with a terrifying burst of spontaneous fire.
Below you’ll find our spoiler-packed breakdown and early theories for Detective Conan File 1138, “The Flames Ignite Again.”
Detective Conan File 1138 “The Flames Ignite Again” – Spoilers
The chapter opens exactly where File 1137 left off: Tamaki Itō’s left sleeve suddenly erupts in flames.
Following Conan’s quick instructions, Tamaki strips off her parka and hurls it into the snow, snuffing the blaze. Miraculously, only the outer layer burns—Tamaki herself is unscathed.
File 1138 Spoiler ① – A Monster’s Curse… or Something Else?
The incident strikes during the Compass Detective Club’s haunted-spot shoot. Editor Kaori Nanjō, manager Shichisuke Kasai, cameraman Yūta Kitakura, and host Tamaki Itō all argue over the cause:
- Tamaki blames the “curse” of her late boyfriend, Takehiko Nanjō.
- Kaori stays level-headed and rejects any supernatural angle.
- Kasai insists the legend of the “Corpse-Lighter” (Shibito no Mitō) is real—and predicts their video will go viral.
Kasai privately tells Conan that Tamaki and Takehiko were a couple.
Shaken, the four decide to leave the slope for now.
File 1138 Spoiler ② – Conan Phones Inspector Yui Uehara
Conan calls Nagano’s Inspector Yui Uehara for details on the lodge fire three months ago.
Officially, newspapers left on a shelf toppled into a heater, but both Inspector Kansuke Yamato and Inspector Takaaki Morofushi were summoned because Takehiko’s skull showed blunt-force trauma.
File 1138 Spoiler ③ – Trouble Inside the Lodge
Everyone heads to the rental lodge.
There, a fierce debate breaks out over whether to upload the fiery footage.
Tamaki suddenly shoves Kaori; Kaori slams into a wall and smoke billows from her back.
She strips off her hoodie—again, no external ignition source is found.
Talk of curses swirls, and the group opts to calm down at a nearby restaurant.
File 1138 Spoiler ④ – A Third Burst of Flames on the Road
The Compass team splits into two cars: Kitakura drives a compact Mini, while Kasai, Kaori, and Tamaki ride in a large van.
Professor Agasa’s Beetle trails behind. En route, Kasai’s stomach cramps force a restroom stop one kilometer ahead.
He rolls down the van window to alert Kitakura.
Kitakura lowers his own window—just as his right arm inexplicably ignites. The Mini veers into a tree; Kitakura emerges with a head wound.
Conan immediately calls for police and an ambulance.
File 1139 will continue the Nagano mystery… Stay tuned for more twists in the “One-Eyed Afterimage” lead-in arc.
Detective Conan File 1138 “The Flames Ignite Again” – Review & Theories
A baffling series of spontaneous fires continues. In File 1138, two more members of the Compass Detective Club go up in flames—one of them crashing in a roadside accident.
With so many unanswered questions, here are our quick impressions and working theories.
File 1138 Review & Theories ① – Confirmed: This Arc Will Run Four Chapters or More
Classic Conan cases often wrap in three chapters, but the Nagano storyline is already guaranteed to hit at least four.
File 1139 should be the full investigation phase that pinpoints the ignition source, followed by a resolution chapter.
However, because Inspectors Kansuke Yamato and Takaaki Morofushi have barely appeared, a flash-back-heavy fourth or even fifth installment feels likely—great news for fans hoping for deeper character moments.
File 1138 Review & Theories ② – Takehiko’s Death Is the Central Clue
We learned that Takehiko Nanjō was almost certainly murdered—his skull showed signs of blunt-force trauma.
The culprit is probably one of the four surviving club members, and someone appears to be staging “hauntings” in Takehiko’s name.
Expect the victim’s back-story to become the key that unlocks the current mystery.
File 1138 Review & Theories ③ – Do the Matching Hoodies Hold the Answer?
All three flare-ups share a single link:
- Tamaki Itō – left sleeve ignited
- Kaori Nanjō – smoke from the back
- Yūta Kitakura – right sleeve ignited
Each was wearing the team’s branded hoodie.
That suggests a “hoodie fabric × second chemical” reaction—perhaps a volatile alcohol mist—triggers ignition under specific conditions.
No Visible Ignition Devices
So far, investigators have found zero lighters, matches, or spark sources at any scene—making the fires look almost supernatural.
Tracking the hoodies’ material and any hidden accelerants is now priority #1.
File 1138 Review & Theories ④ – Was Kasai’s Coffee Spiked with a Laxative?
Driver Shichisuke Kasai doubled over with sudden stomach pain before the roadside crash.
It’s highly plausible that someone dosed his coffee with a fast-acting laxative to force an unscheduled stop:
- Kasai feels ill and slows the van.
- He signals Kitakura in the lead car.
- Kitakura opens his window and rests his arm outside—his usual driving habit.
- The exposed sleeve ignites, the Mini swerves, and Kitakura is injured.
That chain of events looks too convenient to be random, indicating the real arsonist is inside the group—and Kasai was merely a pawn.
