Detective Conan Manga Chapter 1144 Spoilers, Theories & Review | Case Closed

Detective Conan Ep.1144 Spoilers

Spoiler warning: File 1144 opens a new Black Organization thread. The chapter ends with a dangerous meeting between Andre Camel and Kanenori Wakita, but it does not resolve the larger mystery.

Answer: Conan’s fragmented memories of Tequila, Suguru Itakura, Vermouth, and a mysterious software project are the chapter’s main warning sign. The apparent black-clad man is actually FBI agent Andre Camel in disguise, and Wakita arrives before Camel’s cover can be safely separated from his past.

Detective Conan File 1144: “The Man Who Was Invited”

File 1144 follows the questions Conan carried over from File 1141. At Teitan Elementary School, he tries to organize memories of Tequila, the computer graphic artist Suguru Itakura, Vermouth, and the software Itakura abandoned. A conversation between Ran Mouri and Eri Kisaki supplies the trigger, while Ai Haibara’s earlier warning about punishment keeps echoing in Conan’s thoughts.

The Black Organization Clue Begins with a Misunderstanding

Haibara asks Conan whether he wants to be punished, referring to the flower-bed incident. Ayumi Yoshida then describes seeing a man in a black hood yelling at an elderly man and taking both the man and his luggage. She did not see his face, but the description sounds close enough to a Black Organization lead for Conan to investigate.

The “Suspicious Man” Is FBI Agent Andre Camel

Conan and the Detective Boys find Andre Camel at the location. Camel has cut his long hair short to hide after the events of “The Black Organization’s Scheme.” Conan recognizes him, but the other children do not. Conan therefore introduces him under an alias, while Haibara appears to understand who he really is.

Camel Was Helping an Elderly Man

The apparent abduction was a misunderstanding. The elderly man wanted directions to Beika Station, had difficulty hearing, and spoke loudly. Camel picked him up with his luggage to move him safely, which made his action look threatening from a distance.

A Knife and a Gunshot Interrupt the Explanation

Before Conan, the Detective Boys, and Camel can leave, a knife falls from a third-floor apartment. Breaking glass is followed by a gunshot. The building residents say that a man and a woman had been arguing inside a room, and the landlord must be found to open the door.

The Apartment May Contain a Staged Death

When the landlord arrives about thirty minutes later, smoke fills the room. A pan is burning on the stove, and a woman appears to have been shot. A thick rubber band attached to the desk suggests that the scene may have been arranged to look like murder rather than a straightforward suicide.

Wakita Arrives at Exactly the Wrong Moment

Three people who work at the club—Michiyoshi Takabuki, Ikuto Nishime, and Satoru Shinpo—say that Ayako called them. Then Kanenori Wakita from Iroha Sushi enters because he was asked to deliver two servings of special sushi. His order implies that Ayako expected to meet one other person, not three workers. When he sees Camel, Wakita says that he feels they may have met somewhere before.

Wakita says, “I have a feeling we may have met somewhere before.” (unofficial translation)

Why This Chapter Matters for the Black Organization

The opening memory sequence revives clues that had been dormant for a long time. Itakura’s software, Tequila, and the mysterious woman are not solved here, but the chapter makes the connection feel deliberate. The word “punishment” may also be more important than the word “medicine,” because it can support a theory about Renya Karasuma’s condition.

That theory remains a theory. The flower-bed conversation and the wording about punishment may support a possibility that the Organization’s leader is physically younger than expected, but File 1144 does not establish that conclusion as fact.

Camel’s Survival Must Remain Hidden

Camel is alive but is supposed to be dead after the anime story “The Black Organization’s Scheme.” His short haircut is part of the cover. Because Vermouth, Korn, and Rum know the version of events in which he died, revealing him now could expose the FBI’s position and lead the Organization toward Shuichi Akai and Rena Mizunashi.

Camel and Wakita Should Not Have Met

The danger is not only that Wakita might remember Camel. Wakita is Rum, and Rum already appears to have information about Camel. If Camel is identified, the Organization could investigate where he is hiding. The chapter therefore creates a meeting that puts both sides at risk, even though it does not give Conan or Camel a completed identification.

Could Conan Identify Rum First?

There is a possible reversal. Camel has learned that Rum operates under a ridiculous-sounding alias. In Japanese name order, his alias is Wakita Kanenori. Rearranging those letters gives “toki wa kane nari,” meaning “time is money.” That sound-and-letter clue may help the protagonists connect Wakita to Rum, but File 1144 does not make it a confirmed identification. If Camel or Conan makes that connection, the encounter could become an opportunity to identify Rum instead of merely surviving him.

Haibara’s Reaction Makes the Meeting More Dangerous

Haibara reacts to Wakita’s presence and crouches outside the room. Her danger sense has reacted to Wakita before, so the moment may signal that the same threat is close again. If Wakita identifies Haibara as Shiho Miyano, the danger reaches Conan’s entire side, not only Camel.

The Clock Points to a Time-Based Trick

The apartment clock shows 4:15 p.m. Camel and the children encounter one another around 4:00, a gunshot follows, and the door opens at about 4:30. The sequence is therefore 4:00, 4:15, and 4:30. If the clock has stopped, its fifteen-minute gap could be a key to the staged death; the chapter presents that as a possibility rather than a settled fact.

Conclusion: File 1144 is a setup chapter whose real significance lies in the revived Organization clues and the Camel-Wakita reunion. The evidence raises the danger level without yet proving every theory about Rum, the software, or the staged death.
