Nagano Prefectural Police “Kansuke Yamato, Yui Uehara, Takaaki Morofushi” Appearance List – Manga & Anime

Detective Conan introduces police from several prefectures, but the Nagano team stands out for its unique personalities and strong fan base.

The list below combines manga chapters and anime episodes so you can track every appearance by Kansuke Yamato, Yui Uehara, and Takaaki Morofushi.

[S] Volume 59: First appearance of “Kansuke Yamato & Yui Uehara”

The Nagano Prefectural Police debut when Kogoro, Heiji, and their group visit a remote village.

The rough-looking officer they meet is Kansuke Yamato. At this point Inspector Yui appears under her maiden name, Yui Torada—something many viewers overlook.

Her husband has already died, and the “Fūrinkazan” case unfolds on the Torada family estate where she had married in.

Why Yui quit the force—and her feelings for Yamato

Yui’s marriage and resignation were both connected to the Fūrinkazan incident.

Yamato suffered severe injuries while pursuing the same case; believing him lost, Yui tried to move on.

As a result Yamato acts distant, and Yui shows clear regret. After the mystery is solved, a conversation with Yamato convinces her to return to detective work.

During this arc Yui also tells Ran and Kazuha that love requires quick action—hinting at her own feelings for Yamato.

Anime adaptation: Episodes 516–517 “Fūrinkazan”

Episode 516: “Furinkazan – The Mysterious Armored Warrior”
Episode 517: “Furinkazan – Shadow and Lightning Conclusion”

[A] Volume 65 — “A Dangerous Party of Two”: Yamato & Uehara cross paths with Haibara and Professor Agasa

The pair’s second overall appearance takes place in Tokyo.

Professor Agasa and Haibara accept a ride from two suspicious strangers and head toward the Mōri Detective Agency.

Inside the car, Haibara notices bullet holes and a pistol in the glove box; overhearing the words “half-dead,” she fears the duo might belong to the Black Organization.

She calls Conan, hides in a service-area restroom…and discovers the “strangers” are actually Nagano officers Kansuke Yamato and Yui Uehara.

Anime adaptation: Episode 557 “A Dangerous Party of Two”

[S] Volumes 65–66 — “The Red Wall”: First appearance of Takaaki Morofushi (then only a local-station detective)

Yamato and Uehara visit Kogoro to request help with a serial-kidnapping case back in Nagano—the victim had been held prisoner behind a red wall.

This arc introduces Detective Takaaki Morofushi, then assigned to the rural Shinno Station.

The story highlights the history and trust between Yamato and Morofushi, and it’s also where Yamato openly recognizes Conan’s superior deductive skills.

Anime adaptation: Episodes 558-561 “The Mansion of Death and the Red Wall” four-part special:

  • Episode 558 “The Mansion of Death and the Red Wall (Three Visits)”
  • Episode 559 “The Mansion of Death and the Red Wall (Item in Hand)”
  • Episode 560 “The Mansion of Death and the Red Wall (The Late Komei)”
  • Episode 561 “The Mansion of Death and the Red Wall (Empty Fort Strategy)”

[A] Volumes 74–75 — “The Design of Poison and Mirage”: Morofushi has rejoined the prefectural HQ

This two-volume case—also known as the “Poison & Illusion” arc—centers on a Baumkuchen-related murder that draws Conan and Heiji to Nagano.

Contacting Inspector Uehara brings Yamato and, now, Prefectural Detective Takaaki Morofushi back into the story; by this point Morofushi has been reinstated to Nagano HQ.

Anime adaptation: Episodes 652-655 “The Design of Poison and Mirage,”

  • Episode 652 “The Design of Poison and Mirage (EYE)”
  • Episode 653 “The Design of Poison and Mirage (S)”
  • Episode 654 “The Design of Poison and Mirage (Poison)”
  • Episode 655 “The Design of Poison and Mirage (Illusion)”

These three arcs are the most significant appearances of the Nagano Prefectural Police trio and are essential viewing (or reading) for fans of Kansuke Yamato, Yui Uehara, and Takaaki Morofushi.

[A] Volumes 82–83 – “The Red Woman” Case: Morofushi and Yamato Appear in the Second Half

When Masumi Sera, Ran, and Sonoko visit a mountain villa, Yui Uehara arrives first and teams up with them.

A second murder occurs, and the group edges closer to uncovering the identity of the “Red Woman.” Kansuke Yamato and Takaaki Morofushi finally enter the story in File 874 “The Crimson Yesteryear” and File 875 “Tragedy in Red.”

The crime links back to an earlier case, so the two detectives question an officer who once responded to that scene. Ultimately, all three Nagano officers reunite at the new crime scene.

Anime adaptation: Episodes 754–756 “The Tragedy of the Red Woman,”

  • Episode 754 “The Tragedy of the Red Woman (Steam)”
  • Episode 755 “The Tragedy of the Red Woman (Evil Spirit)”
  • Episode 756 “The Tragedy of the Red Woman (Revenge)”

[B] Volume 86 (Brief Cameo) – A Single Scene Only

A case breaks out at a Nagano hot-spring resort. Because it’s Nagano, everyone expects Inspector Yamato to appear—especially with the ongoing RUM storyline and his injured eye—yet the officer who shows up is actually Inspector Yamamura from neighboring Gunma.

The resort sits right on the prefectural border, so Yamamura has jurisdiction; Yamato appears for just one brief scene.

Anime adaptation: Episodes 808–809 “The Kamaitachi Inn,”

  • Episode 808 “The Kamaitachi Inn (Part 1)”
  • Episode 809 “The Kamaitachi Inn (Part 2)”

[S] Volumes 86–87 – Nagano’s Dark Secret “The Woodpecker Society”: First Appearance of Hyoue Kuroda

The must-see “Woodpecker Society” arc features Yamato, Uehara, and Morofushi—and marks the debut of RUM candidate Hyoue Kuroda (then Nagano’s Division 1 chief, not yet a superintendent).

Old suspicions force Yamato himself under the spotlight, and tangled motives make this one of Nagano’s most complex cases.

Anime adaptation: Episodes 810–812 “The Prefectural Police’s Dark Shadow,”

  • Episode 810 “The Darkness of the Prefectural Police (Part 1)”
  • Episode 811 “The Darkness of the Prefectural Police (Part 2)”
  • Episode 812 “The Darkness of the Prefectural Police (Part 3)”

[S] Volume 96 – Fan-Favorite “Takaaki Morofushi vs. Kaito Kid”

The sharpest mind in the Nagano force, Takaaki Morofushi, takes on master thief Kaito Kid. Morofushi appears from the opening chapter and gives Jirokichi Suzuki a clever plan to protect a jewel.

Yamato and Uehara join mid-case; by phone they talk with Morofushi in Tokyo, and his younger brother comes up—hinting at future plotlines.

[S] Volume 97 – Snow-Lodge Murder: Yamato, Uehara, and Morofushi Reappear

Although the Nagano trio play a lighter role, this snow-lodge case is pivotal: RUM candidate Kanenori Wakita and Black-Organization agent Bourbon meet face-to-face for the first time.

Because the crime scene is a Nagano mountain villa, Yamato and Morofushi receive updates remotely—see File 1029 “Sleeping Children Don’t Cry.”

When Morofushi spots “Tōru Amuro/Bourbon,” a memory resurfaces. Former Nagano chief Heiji Kuroda phones Morofushi, triggering an important development.

  • Episode 1005: “The 36-Cell Perfect Game (Part 3)”

[S] Volume 102 — Misao Yamamura vs. the Nagano Prefectural Police: A Case That Reveals Hiromitsu Morofushi’s Past

A murder occurs right on the Gunma–Nagano prefectural border.

From Gunma we get Inspector Misao Yamamura; from Nagano come the familiar trio of Kansuke Yamato, Takaaki Morofushi, and Yui Uehara.

Although Yamato and Uehara are “meeting” Yamamura and Conan’s group for the first time in the manga timeline, the story treats it as their second encounter—because their real first meeting happened in the movie The Raven Chaser. Classic Conan continuity humor!

The unexpected connection between Yamamura and Morofushi is worth a closer look.

Key chapters: Volume 102, File 1082 “Murder on the Line,” File 1083 “Border Memories,” File 1084 “Micchan’s Home.”

Anime version: Episodes 1123–1124 “The Body at the Gunma–Nagano Border”

[A] Volume 107 — Ski-Resort Case in Nagano

Conan and the Detective Boys head to a Nagano ski area. During a tour of Nagano Prefectural Police HQ, Inspector Yui Uehara acts as their guide, and a flashback shows child-age versions of Yamato, Morofushi, and Uehara—an endearing moment.

This case also confirms that when Yui was a first-grader, Yamato and Morofushi were already sixth-graders, underpinning Yui’s long-standing crush on Yamato.

No major Black-Organization developments occur, but the episode deepens the trio’s backstory.

Key chapters: Volume 107, File 1137 “Lantern of the Dead,” File 1138 “The Fire Burns Again,” File 1139 “Aftermath of the Blaze,” File 1140 “Entrusted Evidence.”

Note: This arc has not yet been animated.

Movie 28 “The One-Eyed Afterimage” — Nagano Police take the lead

Scheduled for 2025, this film finally puts Yamato, Morofushi, and Uehara in the spotlight—ten years after their first cameo. The title hints at Yamato’s left-eye scar: the movie reveals he wasn’t injured by an avalanche but was actually shot.
