Detective Conan File 1152 “Risky Photo” – Spoilers

The chapter opens in hotel room 204, where newspaper reporter Tomoya Ogasawara is found dead.

Inspector Megure and the team arrive to process the scene. Circumstantial evidence shows Ogasawara collapsed onto the floor, fatally struck on the head with a vase. Notably, his right hand is gripping a chair caster (wheel).

1152 Spoiler ① – Three Suspects

  • Rina Nomura — gravure idol and Ogasawara’s lover (an affair).
  • MP Shuho Kondo — member of the House of Representatives.
  • Actor Kyosuke Domoto.

It’s revealed that Kondo and Domoto were both being blackmailed with incriminating photos.

On the day of the crime, the only person in the room once Ogasawara was “alone” was Rina. Hidden in the room beforehand were Kondo and Domoto—making these three the primary suspects.

A calculator found near the body displays 50,511,070, with the leftmost 0 circled in blood—an enigmatic, code-like clue.

1152 Spoiler ② – Each Person’s Testimony

Rina Nomura: She never saw the actual photo used for blackmail but knew the editor-in-chief had suppressed it.

She says that when Kondo came by, he spilled bottled water onto Ogasawara’s leg (she was in the shower and inferred events from sound). About Domoto, she says he used the toilet after her shower due to stomach pain. Oddly, although Ogasawara had said he’d shower before going out, he suddenly changed plans and left. Rina heard both men leave.

MP Shuho Kondo: He was threatened over a photo of his middle-school daughter smoking in front of a convenience store.

Actor Kyosuke Domoto: Despite an exclusive contract with a major sports brand, he was photographed wearing another company’s cap and was extorted over it.

All three, then, had vulnerabilities Ogasawara could exploit.

1152 Spoiler ③ – Conan’s Deduction Starts Moving

Forensics finds a small GPS device on Ogasawara’s leg. Conan and Masumi Sera infer it was attached when someone “spilled water,” pointing strongly to Kondo as the likely culprit. Conan also reexamines the calculator’s blood-circled zero, considering that it may be a message aimed specifically at detective Masumi Sera, not just a random cipher.

It also emerges that when Ogasawara first met Sera he called her “tanuki.” In hotel jargon this means “dinner not included.” Conan and Sera consult Detective Takagi about hotel terms to assemble the puzzle pieces.

Finally, the fact that the victim was clutching a chair wheel (a “tire”) proves crucial. Realizing what the “wheel” points to, Conan and Sera close in on the culprit as the chapter heads into its final stage.

Detective Conan File 1152 “Risky Photo” – Review & Theories

This chapter moves the investigation forward. Since Conan and team essentially crack the case by the end, the next installment will likely be the resolution. Below are my takeaways and theories for File 1152.

1152 Review & Theory ① – The mystery behind the “risky photo” deepens

If the picture Ogasawara held was actually a hotel serial bombing–site photo, then it places Masumi Sera and de-aged Mary at the same scene—and raises the possibility that MP Shuho Kondo and actor Kyosuke Domoto were there as well.

  • Conflict with Kondo’s testimony. He claims he was blackmailed with a shot of his middle-school daughter smoking “in front of a convenience store.” Given that “that day” was an emergency at the hotel, the convenience-store setting feels off.
→ A more plausible scenario is an inconvenient moment near the hotel (e.g., pictured with a woman), which fits the timeline and pressure better.
  • Domoto’s account fits more easily. He says he was squeezed over a photo wearing a non-sponsor cap. A “cap” could naturally appear in chaotic hotel-front photos, so time and place line up. Still, he might be downplaying the true severity of what the photo shows.

Bottom line: both statements may include strategic misdirection. Under the “hotel bombing photo” premise, Kondo’s location claim stands out as the biggest mismatch, while Domoto’s version is easier to reconcile yet may soften the real offense.

1152 Review & Theory ② – Why Sera is desperate to retrieve the photo

Quick refresher: during the hotel serial bombings, Mary—publicly presumed dead and, in reality, de-aged—was likely captured on camera. If that image surfaces, it won’t just expose identities; it could blow open secrets tied to APTX 4869 itself. That’s why Sera will use any means necessary to retrieve (and erase) the data—this is the core motive driving her actions in this arc.
