Who truly knows Ai Haibara’s identity? Has Rumi Wakasa, Tooru Amuro, or even Rum already uncovered her secret?
Ai Haibara’s real name is Shiho Miyano. Within the Black Organization she was known by the codename Sherry, and she worked as a scientist connected to APTX 4869. After taking the drug while trying to escape the Organization, her body became that of a child. She now lives with Hiroshi Agasa under the name Ai Haibara.
Counting the people who know her identity requires care, because her secret has several distinct layers. Knowing the name Shiho Miyano is not necessarily the same as knowing Sherry, her research role, or the effect of APTX 4869.
This spoiler-filled guide separates confirmed knowledge, strong implication, partial knowledge, unresolved suspicion, and movie-only evidence.
Who Knows Ai Haibara’s Identity? The Short Answer
In the main manga, the clearest core group who know that Ai Haibara is Shiho Miyano or Sherry, together with the truth of her de-aging, consists of Conan Edogawa, Hiroshi Agasa, Vermouth, and Pisco.
Shuichi Akai also appears to understand her identity when his history with Akemi Miyano and his conduct as Subaru Okiya are considered together. Unlike Conan and Agasa, however, he has no equally explicit scene in which Ai tells him every part of the secret, so he belongs in a separate, strongly implied category.

They may understand that Ai is not an ordinary elementary school student or that she is connected to de-aging, but the available material does not establish that every one of them knows both the name Shiho Miyano and the codename Sherry.
Rumi Wakasa, Tooru Amuro, and Rum have moved dangerously close to the secret, but the main manga has not shown a complete identity reveal to any of them. Keeping these categories separate is the only way to answer who knows what without turning suspicion into certainty.

Among these five, Conan, Agasa, Vermouth, and Akai are alive; Pisco died before he could pass the secret widely through the Organization. The contrast is central to Ai’s story: knowledge in the hands of an ally can protect her, while the same knowledge in an Organization member can destroy her refuge.
Main-Story Characters Who Know Ai Is Shiho Miyano or Sherry
The strongest cases differ not only in certainty but also in how the truth was learned: confession, investigation, recognition, or accumulated inference.
Those different routes matter. A direct explanation from Ai supports a broader claim about knowledge than a character’s protective behavior or a moment of suspicion.
Conan Edogawa and Hiroshi Agasa Heard the Truth from Ai
Conan Edogawa and Hiroshi Agasa are the two people most clearly shown learning Ai’s identity and circumstances from Ai herself.
Ai tells them that her real name is Shiho Miyano, that the Organization called her Sherry, and that she was involved in APTX 4869 research. When she first transfers to Teitan Elementary School, she appears to be an ordinary girl. She later tells Conan that APTX 4869 also reduced her body to that of a child.
The revelation changes her from a new classmate into someone carrying a secret parallel to Conan’s own. Their shared condition gives them an understanding that almost no one else can have.
Agasa found the newly de-aged Shiho collapsed near the Kudo Residence and took her in. He helped establish the name Ai Haibara and gave her a home. Conan shares her danger, while Agasa gives a fugitive child the security of a family. Both know the same central truth, but their roles in her life are different.
Vermouth Identified Sherry as Ai Haibara
Vermouth is the living Black Organization member most clearly shown knowing that Ai Haibara is Sherry.
While disguised as Tomoaki Araide, Vermouth investigated Teitan High School and the people around it. Her investigation led her to Ai, and she identified the child as the fugitive Sherry. She later moved to kill Ai as a traitor to the Organization.
Yet Vermouth has not shared Ai’s identity with the entire Organization. Her special feelings toward Conan and Ran influence her choices, leaving her in the contradictory position of having hunted Ai while also concealing the secret from Gin and Rum.
In the movie Kurogane no Submarine (tentative title), Vermouth acts to undermine the age-progression recognition result and thereby helps keep Ai’s identity hidden. This is movie-only evidence and does not independently establish what every character knows in the manga.
Why Vermouth continues to hold this secret is one of the most consequential tensions surrounding Ai and the Black Organization.
Pisco Recognized Shiho in Her Child Form
Pisco recognized the de-aged Ai as Shiho Miyano because he had known what Shiho looked like as a child.
Pisco had been close to Atsushi Miyano and Elena Miyano and had seen Shiho when she was young. When he saw Ai, he noticed the resemblance and pierced the protection her child body seemed to provide. That moment proves that de-aging is not an absolute disguise against someone familiar with her past.
Pisco also moved toward understanding that APTX 4869 could have an effect other than death. Gin killed him before that knowledge could be distributed more broadly through the Organization. The danger passed, but only after Ai came extremely close to exposure.
Shuichi Akai Is Strongly Implied to Know
The story strongly implies that Shuichi Akai understands that Ai Haibara is Shiho Miyano, but it does not give him the same direct confirmation scene as Conan or Agasa.
During his infiltration of the Black Organization under the name Dai Moroboshi, Akai dated Akemi Miyano. That relationship placed him close to Akemi’s younger sister Shiho and to the Organization context in which she was called Sherry. His later circumstances after Raiha Pass also frame his life as Subaru Okiya.
Akai later lives at the Kudo Residence as Subaru Okiya and repeatedly watches over Ai. His behavior when she senses the Organization is consistent with someone who recognizes both her danger and her connection to Akemi. Those clues form a persuasive line of inference, but they should not be rewritten as an explicit confession scene that the available material does not provide.
Akai’s restraint is part of the relationship’s emotional force. He does not force Ai to explain herself or demand closeness; he protects her when necessary and lets his actions carry the meaning.
People Who Know Part of Ai’s Secret or Suspect De-Aging
Knowing that Ai is unusual does not automatically mean knowing the full chain Ai Haibara, Shiho Miyano, Sherry, and APTX 4869.
The following characters are involved in Conan’s side of the conflict, but the exact boundaries of their knowledge have not been stated clearly in the available material.
Yusaku Kudo, Yukiko Kudo, and Heiji Hattori
Yusaku Kudo, Yukiko Kudo, and Heiji Hattori likely know that Ai is not an ordinary child, but the full extent of what each knows remains unclear.
Yukiko participates in the train plan and becomes deeply involved in the contest surrounding Vermouth and Sherry. Yusaku also works with Conan on measures against the Black Organization, making complete ignorance of Ai’s situation seem unlikely. Even so, the available material does not show either parent receiving every detail directly from Ai.
It would be plausible for the Kudo family to share such information, but plausibility is not confirmation. The article therefore does not claim that Yusaku and Yukiko certainly know Ai’s real name, codename, research role, and de-aging mechanism as a complete set.
Heiji is also likely to understand that Ai is connected to Conan’s de-aging and to the antidote. He has been involved when Conan temporarily returned to his older body. However, the story has not explicitly stated that Heiji knows the entire equation Ai Haibara equals Shiho Miyano equals Sherry.
Masumi Sera and Kaitou Kid
Masumi Sera and Kaitou Kid have both approached the de-aging secret, but it remains unclear whether either knows Ai’s complete former identity and history.
Because Masumi’s mother Mary has also become a child, Masumi is searching for a way to restore her. She suspects that Ai may be connected to APTX 4869 or an antidote. Ai is therefore a possible key to Masumi’s family crisis, not merely another member of the Detective Boys.
The available material does not show Masumi learning the name Shiho Miyano or Ai’s former position as Sherry. Her suspicion concerns the drug and the possibility of reversal, and it must remain separate from complete identity knowledge.
Kaitou Kid cooperates with Conan during the train operation and disguises himself as adult Shiho. That role shows that he knew what appearance the plan required, but not necessarily why the drug worked or how deeply Ai was tied to the Organization. How Much Does the FBI Know Beyond Akai?
The FBI understands that Ai is an important person threatened by the Black Organization, but the available material does not establish that every agent shares Akai’s level of knowledge.
Jodie Starling, Andre Camel, and James Black help on the side protecting Ai. It would not be surprising if they understood that the person the Organization calls Sherry is connected to her. Still, there is no stated scene in the available material showing that the wider FBI knows her real name, de-aging, and research history as a complete set.
Akai has personal knowledge through Akemi that the other agents do not necessarily share. Treating the FBI as a single mind would erase that difference. In this conflict, withholding a dangerous secret can be another form of protection.
Characters Closing In on Ai’s Identity in the Latest Manga
Even through Volume 108 and File 1166, the available material does not establish a new complete reveal of Ai’s identity.
Rum, Rumi Wakasa, and Tooru Amuro are nevertheless positioned close to the truth. The material involving Volume 108 and Files 1163-1166 is described in the available material as not yet adapted for television, so readers should treat this section as manga spoilers.
Rum Reacts to Ai in Volume 108, but It Is Not Confirmation
Kanenori Wakita, who is Rum, comes dangerously close to Ai in Volume 108, but the available material does not show him confirming that she is Shiho Miyano or Sherry.
Ai senses the distinctive presence of the Black Organization near Wakita and becomes intensely cautious. Wakita also has Ai within his view. The scene creates the possibility that Rum notices something, but it does not show him naming her identity.
At present, the safest reading is that a path toward suspicion has opened. If Rum were eventually to connect the Miyano family, APTX 4869, and Ai’s appearance, the threat could become a full exposure. That future development remains speculation, not a current fact.
Rumi Wakasa Has Not Stated the Answer Through File 1166
Rumi Wakasa appears deeply suspicious of Ai’s connection to the Miyano family, but through File 1166 she has not explicitly identified Ai as Shiho Miyano.
Rumi reacts to Ai in a way that recalls young Akemi Miyano and probes information connected to Elena Miyano and APTX 4869 through Ai’s knowledge and words. Her conduct makes it clear that she does not see Ai as an ordinary child.
Yet the available material gives no scene in which Rumi directly connects the names Sherry or Shiho Miyano to Ai. Files 1163-1166 also suggest that Ai’s behavior affects Rumi emotionally, changing the tone from pure investigation toward something more personal.
Rumi may already be close to the correct conclusion, but strong suspicion is the most accurate classification supported by the available material.
Tooru Amuro Remains at the Suspicion Stage in the Manga
Tooru Amuro has meaningful ties to the Miyano family, but the main manga has not confirmed that he knows Ai is Shiho Miyano.
Elena Miyano treated Amuro when he was young, making the Miyano family important to his past. He serves in the Public Security Bureau while operating as Bourbon inside the Black Organization. As Bourbon, he also participated in the train operation while pursuing Sherry. The adult Shiho he encountered there, however, was Kaitou Kid in disguise.
Within the manga evidence described by the available material, Amuro has not clearly connected Ai herself to Shiho. Discovering that Elena’s daughter survived would presumably matter greatly to him, but the decisive discovery scene has not occurred in the available material.
The movie Kurogane no Submarine (tentative title) raises a match between Ai and Shiho through an age-progression recognition system. That movie-only suspicion must not be treated as proof of Amuro’s knowledge in manga continuity.
Characters Who Learned or Suspected Ai’s Identity in the Movies
Movie-only discoveries and temporary suspicions are counted separately from the confirmed main-manga group.
The movies allow more characters to approach Ai’s secret, especially Kurogane no Submarine (tentative title), where information linking Ai and Shiho nearly reaches the entire Organization. The heightened danger is real within those films, but it does not automatically rewrite each character’s manga knowledge.
Curaçao Recognizes Sherry After Regaining Her Memory
As movie-only evidence in Junkoku no Nightmare (tentative title), Curaçao recognizes Ai as Sherry after her memory returns; this does not establish a main-manga case.
While suffering from memory loss, Curaçao spends time with the Detective Boys and interacts normally with Ai. She does not then treat Ai as an Organization traitor. Once her memories return, the Organization information she possesses aligns with the child in front of her.
Curaçao ultimately chooses to protect the Detective Boys rather than report and eliminate Ai. She dies without spreading the secret widely. Her story shows that learning Ai’s identity does not inevitably turn a person into her enemy.
How Far Did Pinga and Naomi Argento Get?
In the movie-only evidence from Kurogane no Submarine (tentative title), Naomi Argento effectively reaches the truth about Ai, while Pinga’s final level of certainty remains unclear; neither point establishes main-manga knowledge.
Naomi attended the same school as Shiho when they were children. The recognition-system result, her conversation with Ai, and her memories allow her to understand that Ai is Shiho. Her recognition carries gratitude and friendship rather than hostility because Shiho once helped her.
Pinga uses the same system to approach the secrets of Ai and Conan. The available material does not establish that he saw through Vermouth’s countermeasure and remained certain to the end that Ai was Sherry. He came very close to the core secret, but calling him fully confirmed would be stronger than the available account supports. He dies before returning with a fully resolved report.
Bourbon, Kir, and Gin Only Encounter a Temporary Suspicion
In Kurogane no Submarine (tentative title), Bourbon, Kir, and Gin encounter a temporary suspicion that Ai is Shiho, but the film does not leave them with confirmed belief.
The age-progression recognition system identifies present-day Ai and the older Shiho as the same person. That result threatens to reveal de-aging to the Organization. If Gin accepted the match as certain, Ai would face immediate and extreme danger because of his fixation on Sherry.
Vermouth then disguises herself as Shiho in multiple places, creating results that make the system appear unreliable. The Organization consequently rejects the match. Bourbon, Kir, and Gin are therefore best classified as characters who encountered a movie-only suspicion, not as people who continue to know Ai is Sherry.
Why Exposure of Ai’s Identity Would Be So Dangerous
Exposure would threaten more than Shiho Miyano alone. If Ai’s de-aging through APTX 4869 were established, it could lead the Organization toward Shinichi Kudo’s survival, Conan Edogawa’s identity, and the allies protecting both children.
The Black Organization Would Learn That APTX 4869 Can De-Age
If the Organization confirmed that Ai was Shiho, it would also gain evidence that APTX 4869 can produce an outcome other than death.
The Organization treats APTX 4869 as a drug that kills its targets. Shiho surviving in a child’s body would expose a different effect. Ai would then be valuable not only as a traitor to eliminate, but also as a scientist who understands the drug. She could face capture and pressure to resume research as well as the risk of death.
Pisco’s recognition and the movie recognition system are frightening for the same reason: each threatens to reveal both a person and the drug’s secret. To the Detective Boys she is a school friend; to the Organization she is a scientist carrying dangerous knowledge.
The Trail Could Lead to Conan and Akai’s Side
Once the Organization learned that APTX 4869 could make an adult into a child, it could begin asking whether Shinichi Kudo also survived in the same way.
Gin forced Shinichi to take APTX 4869, after which Shinichi became Conan Edogawa. Ai underwent the same physical change. Connecting those parallel cases would give the Organization a major route toward Conan’s identity.
Suspicion could also spread to Agasa, who shelters Ai, to Subaru Okiya at the Kudo Residence, and to Akai and the FBI agents who protect her. Vermouth’s silence therefore shields more than two individual lives; it may also shield the network opposing the Organization.
More allies who know the truth can mean more protection, but every additional holder of the secret is also another possible path for a leak. That balance gives the Black Organization storyline much of its tension.
