When Is Detective Conan Volume 106 Coming Out?

Detective Conan Volume 106 will be released on Friday, 18 October 2024!

It’s the first new volume in six months—the previous one landed back in April.

Two versions will be available:

Regular Edition

Limited/Special Edition – includes an exclusive set of storyboard cards personally drawn by Gosho Aoyama for the movie The Million-Dollar Pentagram.

Quick Recap of Detective Conan Volume 105

The stories collected in Volume 105 are listed below.

  • FILE 1 – The Butler and the Young Lady
  • FILE 2 – The Butler and the Detective
  • FILE 3 – Shelter from The Mountain Rain
  • FILE 4 – The Mystery of the Chastisement Room
  • FILE 5 – Flying Up
  • FILE 6 – The Sky
  • FILE 7 – Substitute
  • FILE 8 – Proof
  • FILE 9 – Sleuth
  • FILE 10 – The Disappeared Kidnapper

Volume 105 finally resolves the long-running mystery of how Iori Muga left the Public Security Bureau to become Momiji Ooka’s butler.

Because the 2024 theatrical film stars Kaito Kid, the middle chapters—beginning with the “Sky—” case—feature Kid’s return and mark the first appearance of Saguru Hakuba in over a decade!

While the plot doesn’t advance the Black Organization arc, it does tie up key loose ends and delivers several fan-pleasing moments.

Volume 106 Spoilers – FILE 1〜FILE 2:Chisato Returns & Amuro Makes a Move

Files 10–11 of Vol. 105 finally get a direct sequel.

The case again teams Chisato Hagiwara with Takagi & Sato, showcasing her elite detective skills—yet the true shock comes at the very end, when Toru Amuro is shown prying into “Edogawa Conan.”

This is the first tangible movement on that thread in an entire volume.

Amuro’s Investigation Into Edogawa Conan

Recall that a mysterious, respirator-wearing elder ordered Amuro to find out who Conan really is. Three arcs later, progress resumes.

At this point Amuro clearly senses Conan is no ordinary kid, yet he still seems unaware that Conan = Shinichi Kudo. File 2 hints that he may be about to connect those dots.

Volume 106 Spoilers – FILE 3〜FILE 5:Amuro & Masumi Both Enter the Stage

These chapters pick up immediately after File 2, once Conan realizes someone planted a bug.

Conan now knows the wiretap’s owner.

Amuro’s attention is laser-focused on Conan and, by extension, Shinichi.

Masumi Sera joins the cast, keeping a wary eye on Amuro—creating a tense three-way standoff.

In the middle of that power triangle, Conan and café-waitress Azusa are kidnapped!

Does Café Poirot’s Real Owner Finally Appear?

The case introduces three suspects, one of whom may actually be the long-rumored Poirot master.

Until now the manga has given us zero information on the true owner, so this could be the very first on-page appearance.

The Mystery of the “Black Baby”

Both the opener and closer show an elderly woman pushing a stroller that holds a shadowy infant.

The internet is buzzing with theories—some believe the baby could be a hint toward Renya Karasuma in disguise.

It may prove unrelated, but we’ll save that deep dive for another article!

Volume 106 Spoilers – FILE 6〜FILE 10:A Stage Play Starring Kogoro & Heiji

The case picks up a loose thread from Vol. 102 (“Sweet Trap”), where a stage play based on Kogoro Mouri and Heiji Hattori was first proposed.

After the death of one of the creative staff, everyone assumed the project was cancelled—but the show has gone on.

Conan and friends travel to Osaka with Heiji to watch opening night, only for a new murder to strike the cast.

File1130:The Bright Yellow First Act
File1131:The Bluish Gray Middle Act
File1132:The Light Gray Penultimate Act
File1133:The Dark Red Last Act

Continuing the “Sweet Trap” Setup

The victim is tied to the late director Kyosuke Kabumoto, known in theatrical circles as “the Marionette Devil Who Haunts the Stage.”Each corpse is discovered in a rigid, puppet-like pose, mirroring Kabumoto’s infamous nickname. Re-reading Files 9-11 of Volume 102 before diving into this arc will give you extra context.

First Appearance of Kazuha’s Mother — Sakura Toyama

Volume 106 introduces Sakura Toyama, Kazuha’s mother.

A former sharpshooter with Osaka Prefectural Police’s Firearms Control Division, she’s both stunning and formidable.

She resembles Kazuha so closely that even Ran can’t tell them apart when Sakura wears a mask.

The Chapter Where Heiji & Kazuha Finally Become a Couple

Long-time fans have waited years for this moment:

after countless failed attempts, Heiji plans one last confession on the Naniwa Harukas observation deck.

Just when it seems he’ll blow it again, the declaration succeeds.

Volume 106 at last makes the Heiji-Kazuha pairing official—an absolute must-read milestone!

Detective Conan Volume 106 Theories: Who’s the “Black Baby” & Did Heiji ♥ Kazuha Finally Happen?

Detective Conan Vol. 106 is crammed with long-awaited reveals and payoff for earlier foreshadowing.

Below are the biggest talking points—and the theories everyone is buzzing about.

Volume 106 Theory ① The Mysterious Black Baby

During the kidnapping arc involving Conan and Azusa, an elderly woman is twice shown pushing a stroller.

A quick glimpse inside reveals a shadowy, all-black infant.

It might be nothing more than a visual gag—but fans instantly wondered whether the baby is an APTX-4869 victim, perhaps even a de-aged Renya Karasuma.

We’d rate that at under 10 percent probability, yet the idea is too delicious to ignore. Expect a dedicated theory post soon!

Volume 106 Theory ② Heiji Hattori & Kazuha Toyama Finally Become a Couple

The running gag of failed confessions seemed doomed to repeat:

the day is overcast, Momiji never appears to nudge things along, the rooftop heliport sets up a classic interruption, and Kazuha doesn’t even reach the observation deck.

And then—surprise!

Heiji’s declaration on the Naniwa Harukas sky deck lands.

Years of mutual pining end at last. The scene is 100 percent “Heiji,” and alone makes Volume 106 required reading.

Volume 106 Theory ③ – Toru Amuro’s Investigation Kicks Into Gear

Ordered by the respirator-wearing elder to look into “Edogawa Conan,” Amuro finally acts.

Conan already knows Amuro’s true identity; Amuro has yet to connect Conan to Shinichi Kudo.

Now that he is actively tailing Conan—with very roundabout methods—it’s only a matter of time before those dots join.

Keep an eye on how Amuro’s next moves shift the balance of power.

Detective Conan (Case Closed) Volume 106 — Quick Summary

Between Amuro’s renewed surveillance, the creepy “black baby” cameo, and—most importantly—the official start of the Heiji × Kazuha romance, Volume 106 delivers on multiple fronts.

If you’re on the fence, grab a copy; it’s easily one of the series’ most satisfying installments in recent years.
